The goal of the Smith Foundation is to increase the self-esteem of underprivileged youth by helping them set and achieve personal goals. We want every child to have an opportunity to attend camps that inspire and promote individual growth. Camps expose youth to new activities and experiences they may not be familiar with and teaches children how to communicate and work together to develop essential social skills needed in today’s society.
Imagine a child being told to ride a bike without ever being taught. Imagine a teenager being told to drive a car with no formal lessons. It is often said the children are the future. The Smith Foundation agrees. Consequently, it is our noble responsibility to show them the way by sharing life experiences through wisdom and teaching. Learning is essential to advancement. That is why bikes have training wheels and that is why teenagers have driver’s education. The Smith Foundation is here to facilitate prosperity among our overlooked youth.
Without a shadow of a doubt, my grandfather was the single most influential person in my life. He was more than just my grandfather. Clarence C. Smith was my father figure, my mentor and my support system. I started The Smith Foundation with my own money and time in honor of our family name as a way to give back to people who are less fortunate. It was time to make my grandfather and family proud! - Michael Smith
